The book itself has no page numbers or index, and no dates for the works, but it’s still a great collection because I never would have bought any of these titles individually.

It is still odd to read them in modern surroundings, not to look up and see what looks very much like a Victorian study. The art in this book reminds me of high school One of the best parts is a pictorial with no text, just 50 pictures of cats with the appropriate number included somehow.

See, this is also pointless, but sublime. Published April 1st by Mariner Books first published The highlight of this book was “The Sopping Thursday,” the most powerful story of a amohigorey losing his umbrella you will ever see. These seasonal limericks and short stories remind me how versatile Gorey was with the English, and occasionally French, languages. I decided to ‘read’ through a second time, ignoring the words entirely, and just focusing on the art: Thank you for supporting our small, family-owned business!
A amphigoret of some of Gorey’s lesser known works. The Blue Aspic – Fan stalks an opera singer; interesting juxtaposition of their fortunes. I haven’t read all the Amphigorey books not that the order of them mattersbut this one happened to be sitting around in my grandma’s house, so If they are round circles, with pupils drawn in, than amphigore is the “cartoony” style.
I love that he only shows about half the creatures.

Dec 22, Maggie rated it it was amazing Shelves: Amphigorey Again contains previously uncollected work and two unpublished stories—”The Izzard Book,” a quirky riff on the letter Zand “La Malle Saignante,” a bilingual homage to early French silent serial movies. In later years he illustrated many children’s books by John Bellairs, as well as books in several series begun by Bellairs and continued by other authors after his death.
Narratives are very hard to figure out, and I feel like some of the stories would make great writing prompts because there is so much that is not filled in. At times totally disturbing, and at other times perfectly charming.
