Looks like the Ben Gulabin rope tow was an interesting set up! Isn’t there still a hut at Glenmore that they used? This is where the Scottish Ski Club originaly started skiing after the second world war.

So, had Natural Retreats and HIE decided to renovate the Ciste Chairlift last year, rather ccairngorm demolishing it, the work might have been nearing completion now, and the newly rescued lift might have whirred into life just in time to avert disaster.

Nov Last Visited: Older Alan probably has sleepless nights about this piste map from Just in case you ever wondered what Cairngorm looked like with out ski tows. That last one of the almost Japanese looking skier hiking away from Loch Avon back towards Cairngorm summit looks so familiar.

Seems there used to be rope tow up there run by Dundee Ski Club. Map showing the maximum extent of skiing and lifts in the Ciste gully. The original single man access chair had still to be built – so skiers had to walk up to the new ski lift from near blackrock cottage.

Finally got around to scanning them up Walkers and climbers may descend on cairnvorm funicular after walking up, but essential conservation guidelines prohibit their using the funicular for their initial ascent.
