Ventilated space — a space where there is an air change by means of natural ventilation or mechanical means, or where the space communicates with the rest of the structure by means of permanent openings. The chimney shall first be lined with either a Type B vent, sized in accordance with Tables C.
Adequate combustion air shall be provided for the water heater. Chimney — a primarily vertical shaft that encloses at least one flue for conducting flue gases outdoors. Direct-vent appliance — an appliance constructed so that all the combustion air is supplied directly from, and the products of combustion are vented directly to, the outdoors by independent enclosed passageways connected directly to the appliance.
