Alig and Paciello are not so fortunate with Alig convicted of the murder while Paciello is convicted of multiple crimes. By the time Alig was arrested, he was addicted to heroin. But his emotional involvement in the story means he can’t help seeing the pathos in his hard-boiled narrative, particularly when he accompanies Melendez’s brother on a search for his lost sibling, after Alig had dumped the legless body in the Hudson River.

Caruso, known as “Lord Michael”, started his trade in England but returned to New York as a carrier of the latest rave drugs and techno music. I remember seeing pretty boy Paciello in all the celebrity mags, never guessing that this guy was originally a minor player in the Brooklyn mafia. Not what I expected at all oh, those goofy clubland kids, so cutebut more like a true crime novel about the drugs and violence behind the hood-infested club scene. Owen documentation of both the NYC and Miami club scenes are well delivered and seems to report from a distance, not taking the spotlight or Limelight from the characters directly involved. This book is written by vlubland field reporter for the Village Voice who was doing a piece on Special K and also on Peter Gatian.

I found it a challenge to finish mainly because it didn’t convey the spirit of the scene but what it lacked in “fabulousness” it made up in with names, background and details.
