Her character Deuce Enclave also grew up pretty isolated, in a small community that lived underground. There is roaad language the reader has to get used to, the absence of quotations marks, how stubborn Saba is, her obsession over Lugh, Saba’s misplaced apathy towards Emmi, and the lack of explanation of how exactly the world got this way. While there isn’t gratuitous gore, there’s a lot of violence in this book.
This hasn’t happened ree me in a long while. It’s also important to note that the dialect in this book, which is harsh and a little grating, may be hard for some readers to stomach.
Growing up in the desert, I know a thing or two about it. Cage fighting spectators get so hopped up on it that they tear up the losing contestants. What is he king of? I can see how the romantic elements of this story might annoy some people or feel unrealistic. Blooe give a solid 2. If I had loved the second half as much as the first, I think this would rwd become my favorite book of all time. Lugh does the thinking.
I loved the pacing although, tbh, it IS probably a bit needlessly long and Dust,ands loved the characters and the action and the dusty dry setting. Rebel Heart turned into something I hate – almost every important male character had romantic feelings for Saba.

Saba’s life is shattered when her twin brother is stolen by four strangers. Here they have the cage games and the chaal, but we have these things too just in different forms.
Young does a fed job of showing the grotesqueness of feeding off violence and humiliation. Her Deuce’s emotional intuition is pretty close to nonexistent, and she misses cues that seem obvious to us because she’s very underdeveloped in that regard.

Even though Raging Star was slightly better than Rebel Heart, it still didn’t live up to my expectations I had after falling in love with first book. She can’t read or write, so her narrating style consists of abrupt, grammatically-incorrect sentences. Maybe a romance will develop?
