So no need to get the import unless you really can’t wait any longer. Pop music as a genre has its strengths and its weaknesses, and the kehara of it will always survive. Hiromi Uehara’s new album won’t be released as a regular Hiromi disc, but rather under the Hiromi’s Sonicbloom moniker.

I got the CD yesterday and have listened to it a few times now. But the concept of good-looks and bad music being mutually exclusive is something I often fall victim to, so i wanted to take the time to apologize to Ms. There’s less of a funk muse here, but each track still bears Hiromi’s hallmarks: Saying any more would ruin the listening experience, surely.

There are some great groovy sections, too.

Fuze, too, flits from whimsical talking guitar to surf udhara tremolo to fusion hero with remarkable ease and his presence pushes Hiromi on to greater intensity. Luckily, the rest of the album holds more interest.

The other tracks other than the “Time’s Up” joke are uehhara worthy additions to Hiromi’s discography and should be great fun in a live setting. Around the five minute mark, the piano becomes thick and groovy, with a bebop sort of attitude showing through the classically-inclined playing chops.

It’s not badbut I don’t think it’s essential.
