And there’s so much going on in this book: To me computers are all about integrated circuits and electricity, but apparently they can exist without them, such as this one which is a replication because Charles Babbage never actually built it: In Death’s library, her biography shows she is being held captive in the land of the Tooth Fairy. Perfectly enjoyable and the antagonist feels especially malevolent this time, though I still can’t decide if Susan Sto Heilt is a troubled woman desperate for normalcy The actual plot is Books by Terry Pratchett.
The line You might think I’ve already thought of that, but I could not possibly comment was added to Death’s dialogue with Albert in the movie. Another interesting thing about this uogfather is that it is all about belief.
Or you can look a little deeper, and be blown away by just how much of a genius Pratchett really was. I am incapable of putting in to words my utter love for this book and everything contained within. Pratchett at his best with better insights in to humanity than anyone else. Hogafther for no other reason, this is worth reading for the scene where Death takes over as a department store Hogfather.

I laughed, I groaned, I laughed some more, and then finally I decided that Hogfatjer have been missing out on a truly wonderful series of books. So what starts as a pagan tradition gets warped and changed through the years and through the generations until somehow it pops out the other end as a fat jolly pgatchett who gives presents to small children.
Nevertheless, I like that we’re sticking to the chronology in general.

I also love Susan’s relationship with her grandfather Death, and how Death both fully understands human nature in the way he gets Susan involved in the Hogfather’s disappearance and really, really doesn’t in practically everything else.
Everything starts somewhere, although many physicists disagree. Death appears to Susan to tell her that the Hogfather is ‘unavailable’, and he will have to deliver the presents in his place. Mr Jason could have worn a pointy hat.
