The play takes place in an insane asylum and follows three patients, all nuclear physicists. But as a whole I think the book was convincing and absolutely enjoyable.

Science is not a new destructive force; on durrenmatt contrary, it’s the one small chance of escape, because only now, finally, do we actually understand the large systemic causes and consequences of how we’re living. Is it because I strangled the nurse that you want to arrest me, or because it was I who paved the way for the atomic bomb? Can scientists remain free, even in the free world?
Three nurses have been strangled – by those who apparently love them – with only the delusional husks of the perpetrators left behind. We can’t change unless we understand. Although a review like this is a poor place to expound my own views, let me just say that an atomic bomb is by no means necessary for the extinction of the human race, all that’s needed is a stone axe, fire, or a large herd of goats.

Anyway, although I’m glad to have read something that gave me the opportunity for so much analysis, you can probably tell that I didn’t like it very much; it’s baldly preachy, and though intended to be humorous, the laughter is the kind that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
Welche Rolle dugrenmatt in diesem Zusammenhang die Wissenschaft? The question examined is what is the proper course for a scientist who has learned something that is highly dangerous for life on this planet. The light relief dialogue is there for the purpose durrenjatt keeping a puzzled live audience amused, and on television this doubtful sprinkling of humour did not come through; similarly the two murders and police investigations range false in such unrealistic treatment.
Are the risks we take worth the ultimate prices we have to pay? I don’t think I’ll ever get this. A questo punto tutto si fa molto interessante: But Fraulein Doktor is in tisici of everything, including identity: View all 7 comments.
