What kept me reading was my memories of her earlier works, my own stubbornness and the need to find out more of the origins of Marc Remillard bodilses charismatic human progtagonist from the Pliocene books.
Follow the whole trilogy and continue on to the other series. I found that I didn’t want to put the book down even though I remembered a good portion of the story. Fortunately politics have been abolished in the future and everyone gets along just fine. Jan 01, Kathleen rated it it was amazing.
On my first read, when it was over, I was hopeful for humanity, that someone could still write a book that good. The Galactic Milieu Trilogy deals with events after humanity has entered the galactic community. May keeps the identity of the tge s obscure until close to the end of the book when she oddly reveals all. The Whistling Season, Ivan Doig. Marc has equipped hundreds of individuals with his CE devices, and his th arm many ships. Lastly the Pliocene series reads more like a fantasy story as the technology is used more like magic.
This line begins with twins Rogatien Rogi and Donatien Donwhose mother died giving birth to them. The Remillards play a central role in this story, though the narrator, Rogatien “Uncle Rogi” Remillard, is often an bodileas observer rather than a central participant.
But there are at least a dozen other characters, many of them too minor to deserve a POV of their own. Bldiless must-read, in my opinion. I’m a lifelong geek with a passion for books and social justice.
While we see some familiar Remillard faces the beauty of immortal characters is you can do a generational story while picking and choosing who gets to stick around without having to resort to “Gasoline Alley” methods and either fudge ages or pray that no one can do matheveryone who bkdiless immortal has bodilesz much died off by the time we get around to this novel, meaning we’re faced with either descendants or totally new characters, which appears to be a bit of a double edged sword, both refreshing and confusing things I can’t say missing anyone who died but all of the Uack tend to blur together as they expand.
Small details are important and May gets a passing grade. The newest member of the family is Jack, a mentally precocious infant who is off the charts in what May calls, operant ability, or the capacity to function in mental and psychic realms most humans have yet to achieve.
Tje for the Science Fiction can be a fun genre to explore. The series includes multiple references to the work of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin including the concepts of the Omega Point and the Noosphere which are applied to May’s description of galactic mental Unity. Marc is evidently the Lylmik who appeared to his past self, and turns out to be the incorporeal “Family Ghost” who appears to Rogi for several years, nodiless him to finish his memoirs as a unique document of the Metapsychic rebellion.

The book hasn’t really grown old, the technology that she writes about is not out-dated, the central theme of the book -metaphysical powers, the effect of being a immature part of a galactic unity and the desire to stay independent, are still fresh for me.
