Thai Matus rated it it was ok Oct 17, Craig does pepper in several narrative points throughout this book of the horrible sights, sounds, and experiences of the people involved, but it largely focuses on an objective batala overview.
However, I just don’t particularly find this information interesting or useful. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. La Batalla por Stalingrado has ratings and reviews. For my taste, this wasn’t a terribly enjoyable read because it was very much a detailed account of the battle strategies employed by both sides of the war. And I find that idea, as I said, deeply problematic. But I think my fundamental concern is a valid and important one. I mean that, for the vast majority of the book, it is possible, and indeed encouraged, to forget that the German soldiers with whom we are asked to sympathize are in fact the tools of an stalinggrado, genocidal ideology and government.
Poorly written, but a great story of men in battle. But I don’t think that the outcome of the battle of Stalingrad, and the suffering of the Sixth Army, somehow negates the reasons and the choices that put them there in the first place. The battle lines were described but without a map it was difficult to see the pattern of the battle.

The Hungarians lost approximatelymen. It wasn’t always clear caig side of the battle a specific soldier was on. It is never encouraged, and rarely possible, to forget that the Russians are the tools of Communism—which Craig, writing inclearly expects his readers to find abhorrent.
